PVC/OPA Foil Grammage Testing Procedure

the PVC/OPA Foil is made from PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) and OPA (Oriented Polyamide, also known as Nylon) combination foil is a multi-layered packaging material that combines the unique properties of each material to create a versatile and durable foil for various applications. it foil is used in lidding foil. It provides excellent protection from moisture, gas, and other external factors, extending the product’s shelf life. It also provides enhanced resistance to punctures and tears, providing secure storage and transport.

PVC/OPA foil structure
  • Total Grammage:

The PVC/OPA foil total Grammage testing was performed with the help of a GSM plate. The sample was cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 area (as applicable). The sample is cut at different positions of the stock sample. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculate the total Grammage by the given formula,

Total Grammage= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 or 5 x 5 cm2 area)

  • PVC layer Grammage:

The sample of total Grammage was dipped in ethyl acetate and contained in a glass beaker. After some time 15-20 minutes both layers are separated. If the sample is not separated waiting the time both layers are separated. The layer is PVC and OPA layer. Both samples were washed in water. The sample dried in the hot air oven for 2 minutes at 650. Cool the sample in a desiccator, weighing the sample at analytical balance. Calculate the Grammage by the given formula,

PVC Layer Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 or 5 x 5 cm2 area)

  • OPA Layer Grammage:

OPA Layer Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 or 5 x 5 cm2 area)
