PVC/OPA/Al/PVC Foil Testing Procedure

PVC/OPA/AL/PVC foil is made from a thin layer of aluminium foil laminated with one side PVC layer and the other side laminated OPA (Orinated polyamide) and PVC Layer. Its foil is a multi-structure layer foil. Its foil is packaged in blister packaging style. The blister packaging of pharmaceutical finished products like tablets, capsules, and other form. Its foil is a muti-structure layer foil and is commonly used in more sensitive product barriers from moisture, temperature, air, and other environmental conditions.

  1. Description:

The thin-layer aluminium foil is laminated with PVC, and the other side is laminated with OPA (Orinated polyamide) and a PVC Layer. The foil is one-side printed or unprinted foil.

2.Text matter:

The foil is printed, and then the text matters compared with the shade card or artwork.

3.Color:

The foil is printed, text matter and color scheme match with the shade card or Pantone card.

4.Width:

The PVC/OPA/AL/PVC Foil sample is selected, the sample has measured the width with the measuring scale, the reading measuring, and noted down

5.Inner core diameter:

The sample of foil in roll, roll is fixed inner core diameter. It is core inner core diameter measures the securing scale. It measures the reading and notes down.

6.Identification by FTIR

The identification of the sample of PVC/OPA/AL/PVC Foil is done by identification testing performed with the help of an instrument by FTIR. The sample of the PVC side layer identifies its instrument. Its sample compares the sample of the PVC Layer reference standard. We take the PVC Reference Standard and the sample of the PVC Layer side. Its graph is plotted at a wavelength of 3800-650cm-1.

The spectrum obtained from the specimen exhibits major absorption bands only at the same wavelengths as the spectrum of the PVC reference standard.

7.Grammage:

  • Total Grammage:

 the sample of the aluminium layer is laminated with PVC and another side of OPA and PVC Layer is laminated. the gramage testing of each layer so we first took the total grammage testing. then so, the sample of PVC/OPA/AL/PVC Foil grammage testing for the selected sample. Cut the sample into 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm with the help of a GSM plate.  The taken sample weight at analytical balance, the Grammage calculation by the given formula,

Total Grammage = weight in gram x 100 or 400 (if the sample 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

  • PVC Layer:

 Take the sample of total Grammage completely and dip the sample in a glass beaker containing ethyl acetate. After some time both sides PVC layer easily separated, take PVC layer was dried the at hot air oven at 700c for 2 min, and the sample was weighed, calculation the given formula

PVC Grammage = weight in gram x 100 or 400 (if the sample 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

  • OPA and alum layer:

Take the remaining sample (OPA with aluminium) of the PVC layer, dip the sample in 25% glacial acetic acid in water in a glass beaker, and Boil the glass beaker containing the sample. After some time samples are separated in each layer in OPA (oriented polyamide) and the aluminium layer dries both layers in a hot air oven at 700c for 2 min. Then cool the sample take the weight at analytical balance, calculate by the given formula,

Grammage of OPA =weight in gram x 100 or 400 (if the sample 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

Grammage of alum= weight in gram x 100 or 400 (if the sample 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

8.Thickness:

  • Total thickness

The selected sample PVC/OPA/AL/PVC Foil testing of total thickness. The sample of foil’s total thickness was measured with a digital micrometer. The sample measures the reading and notes down the reading of total thickness.

  • PVC Layer:

Take the Sample of PVC layer Grammage testing measuring the thickness with the help of a digital micrometer, take the reading, and note down the reading.

  • Alum layer:

Take the Sample of alum layer Grammage testing measuring the thickness with the help of a digital micrometer, take the reading, and note down the reading.

  • OPA Layer:

Take the Sample of OPA layer Grammage testing measuring the thickness with the help of a digital micrometer, take the reading and note down the reading.

9.Pinhole

The pinhole testing of the sample of PVC/OPA/AL/PVC foil testing foil of illuminated magnifier tester instrument. When the sample is put on the bench of the pinhole tester. The background light is identified as the hole in the Foil sample. It visually checks the sample and does not have any holes. It test identified the sample has no holes.
