PVC/Aclar/Alum Foil Testing Procedure

The PVC/Aclar/Alum foil structure is made of aclar and is laminated with the PVC and another side is laminated with an aluminium layer. The foil is triplex. The foil is made for packaging pharmaceutical products packaging.

6. Grammage:

7. Identification by FTIR

  • FOR PVC Layer:

The testing of identification of the PVC layer takes the sample from “PVC layer Grammage”. The identification testing of PVC Layer with the help of FTIR instrument. The PVC layer matches with the PVC reference standard. The first scan is the reference standard of the PVC layer, then after scanning the graph PVC layer sample, the sample of PVC Layer, and reference standard PVC sample are graph plotted between 3800-650 cm-1 wavelength.

The spectrum of the specimen exhibits major absorption bands only at the same wavelength as the spectrum of the PVC layer sample and reference standard PVC.

  • For Aclar layer:

The testing of identification of the Aclar layer takes the sample from “Aclar layer Grammage”. The identification testing of the Aclar Layer with the help of FTIR instrument. The Aclar layer matches with the Aclar reference standard. The first scan is the reference standard of the Aclar layer, then after scanning the graph Aclar layer sample, the sample of Aclar Layer, and the reference standard Aclar sample are graph plotted between 3800-650 cm-1 wavelength.

8. Identification by chemical method:

The identification of the aluminium layer and the testing of identification by chemical method take the sample of the “aluminium layer Grammage”, weighing the sample at an analytical balance of 15 mg sample in a glass beaker mix 30 ml 1NHCL then heat on a hot plate. The beaker aluminium foil to dissolve, in solution, add about 0.5 ml conc HCL and thioacetamide regents, no precipitate is formed, add dropwise NaoH solution and a gelatinous white precipitate is formed which dissolves on further addition of 1NaoH Solution after gradually addition ammonium hydroxide solution .gelatinous white precipitate is re-formed.

9. Thickness:

  • Total thickness

The sample of PVC/Aclar/Alum foil the testing of total thickness with the help of a digital micrometer. Take the reading and note down it.

  • For PVC layer:

The sample is taken from “PVC layer Grammage” the testing of The PVC layer thickness with the help of a digital micrometer. Take the reading and note down it.

  • For the Aclar layer:

The sample is taken from “the Aclar layer Grammage” the test of The Aclar layer thickness with the help of a digital micrometer. Take the reading and note down it.

  • For Aluminium layer:

The sample is taken from “Aluminium layer Grammage” the test of The Aluminium layer thickness with the help of a digital micrometer. Take the reading and note down it.

10. Pinhole testing PVC/Aclar/Alum foil

The selected sample tested the pinhole of the PVC/Aclar/Alum Foil with the help of an instrument pinhole tester. The sample was plotted on the back of the light background in the light visual, it presence of background light. The sample is easily identified in the sample. It does not observe the hole in the sample. If the sample has a hole light passed the light, it is easily verified in a pinhole. It test is important for foil in pharmaceutical finished product packaging.
