PET/Paper/LDPE Foil Testing Procedure

PET/Paper/LDPE Foil is made from paper laminated with LDPE (Low-density polyethylene) on one side, and other side laminated with PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) on. It is multi-structure foil. It foil is the inner side of the LDPE Layer, and the outer side is the PET layer. This foil is used in the packaging of pharmaceutical finished product tablets, capsules, and bulk powder. This foil is used in blister packaging sachet or strip packaging. This foil is used in the form of moisture, air, contamination, and other environmental conditions.

  1. Description:

The thin layer of laminated paper with LDPE (Low-Density polyethylene) on one side, and PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) is laminated with on the other side. The foil is printed on one side or the unprinted foil.

2. Text Matter:

The foil sample PET/Paper/LDPE is printed to match the text matter shade card or artwork.

3. Color:

The foil sample PET/Paper/LDPE is a text-matter color that matches the shade card or Pantone card.

4. Width:

The foil sample PET/Paper/LDPE measures the width by measuring the scale. The sample measures the width and note-down reading.

5. Inner core Diameter:

The foil sample PET/Paper/LDPE is in a roll form. The role is to measure with the help of the measuring scale.

6. Identification by FTIR:

  • FOR LDPE Layer:

The identification of the sample of PET/Paper/LDPE Foil is done by identification testing performed with the help of an instrument by FTIR. The sample of the LDPE side layer identifies its instrument. Its sample compares the sample of the LDPE Layer reference standard. We take the LDPE Reference Standard and the sample of the LDPE Layer side. Its graph is plotted at a wavelength of 3800-650cm-1.

The spectrum obtained from the specimen exhibits major absorption bands only at the same wavelengths as the spectrum of the LDPE reference standard.

  • FOR PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) Layer:

The identification of the sample of PET/Paper/LDPE Foil is done by identification testing performed with the help of an instrument by FTIR. The sample of the PET side layer identifies its instrument. Its sample compares the sample of the PET Layer reference standard. We take the PET Reference Standard and the sample of the PET Layer side. Its graph is plotted at a wavelength of 3800-650cm-1.

The spectrum obtained from the specimen exhibits major absorption bands only at the same wavelengths as the spectrum of the PET reference standard.

7. Grammage:

  • Total Grammage testing:

The sample PET/Paper/LDPE Foil is testing of total Grammage, cut the sample with the GSM plate 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm. The sample weight at analytical balance, the Grammage calculation by the given formula,

Total Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

  • For LDPE Layer:

The taken the sample from total Grammage sample dipped in a glass beaker containing acetone. Boil the sample on a hot plate, after some time LDPE layer dissolves in acetone the remaining sample PET/Paper. Dry the sample in a hot air oven at 700c for 2 min, and weigh the remaining sample of PET/Paper at analytical balance, calculation Grammage by the given formula

Remaining sample Grammage= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

For LDPE layer Grammage = total Grammage – remaining sample Grammage

  • For PET Layer:

The remaining sample (PET/Paper) is dipped in a glass beaker containing hot water, after some time on the paper side rub the sample with cotton until the paper layer is completely separated from the PET layer wash the water and dry the sample in a hot air oven for 2 min at 700 c. cool the sample at room temperature. Take the weight, calculated by the given formula,

Grammage of PET = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

  • For PAPER Layer:
  • Grammage of Paper Layer = remaining sample layer – Grammage of PET

8. Thickness:

  • For Total Grammage:

The sample of PET/Paper/LDPE foil is measured with the total thickness with the help of a digital micrometer, and the reading is taken and noted down.

  • For PET Layer:

The sample of Grammage of the PET layer is measured the thickness with the help of a digital micrometer, and the reading is taken and noted down.

9. Pinhole:

The pinhole testing of the sample of PET/Paper/LDPE foil testing foil of illuminated magnifier tester instrument. When the sample is put on the bench of the pinhole tester, the background light is identified as the hole in the Foil sample. It visually checks the sample and does not have any holes. The test identified that the sample had no holes.
