PET/PAPER/LDPE Foil Grammage Testing Procedure

The PET/Paper/LDPE Foil makes the structure paper laminated PET (polyethylene terephthalate) on one side and the other side Paper Layer laminated with LDPE (low-density polyethylene). It is two types printed and unprinted foil. The PET Layer is the outer and the inner sides are the LDPE layers. It is foil is used for blister packaging. It foil packaging of pharmaceutical tablets, and capsules. Its foil is a moisture barrier from the air, light, and environmental conditions.

  • Total Grammage

The PET/Paper/LDPE foil sample is a total Grammage testing cut of the 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 (if applicable) area with the help of a GSM plate. If the sample printed text matters removing cotton or clean cloth dipped in ethyl acetate, rubbing on text matters. The text matter is removed, the sample dry at room temperature, the weight is at analytical balance, calculation the total Grammage by the given formula,

Total Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

  • LDPE Grammage:

The sample of total Grammage was dipped in acetone acetone-containing glass beaker. The solution boiling the LDPE layer dissolves in acetone. The remaining sample is PET/Paper foil washed in water and dried in a hot air oven for 15-20 min at 650c temperature. Weight the sample PET/Paper foil at analytical balance, calculated by the given formula,

PET/Paper Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

LDPE Grammage = total Grammage – PET/Paper Grammage

  • Grammage of a paper layer

The sample of PET/Paper layer was dipped in a glass beaker containing hot water. After some time taking the sample and rubbing on the paper with cloth or cotton, the paper layer was removed from the PET layer. Wash the PET layer with water and dry it in a hot air oven at 650c. Cool the sample in a desiccator weighing the sample at an analytical balance, and calculate the PET Layer Grammage by the given formula,

PET Layer Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

Grammage of Paper = PET/Paper Grammage – PET layer Grammage
