The PET/LDPE foil comprises a thin layer of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) laminated with LDPE (Low-density polyethylene). If the sample is printed or unprinted foil the printed text matter or other type of printing is on the PET layer side, and the LDPE layer side is the inner side of the foil. This type of foil is in a sachet, and another type of bulk and liquid pharmaceutical product packaging.
- Total Grammage:
The PET/LDPE sample tests the total Grammage. The selected sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 (if applicable) area with the help of a GSM Plate. The sample is the printed foil the dipped cotton or tissue roll in ethylene acetate. The printed foil side rub the printing is clear carefully. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, the total Grammage calculation by the given formula
Total Grammage= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 area)
- For PET Layer Grammage
Took the sample of total Grammage sample. Completely dipped in the glass beaker containing the acetone. In the hot plate sample boil. After some time the LDPE layer is dissolved in the acetone solution if the LDPE layer is not dissolved in the acetone. Till the time wait for the LDPE Layer to dissolve. When the LDPE layer is dissolved, the remaining layer is the PET layer. THE PET Layer dry in the hot air oven for 2 min at 700c. After the sample dries and cools the layer is in a desiccator.
Then after weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculate the Grammage of the PET Layer by the given formula,
The PET Grammage= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 area)
- For LDPE Layer
The LDPE layer Grammage calculation by the given formula,
LDPE Layer Grammage= total Grammage – the PET Layer Grammage
