PET/Alum/PA/LDPE Foil Grammage Testing Procedure

The PET/Alum/PA/LDPE Foil is made of an Aluminium layer laminated with a PET (polyethylene terephthalate) Layer on one side and the other side Aluminium layer laminated with PA (polyamide) and LDPE (low-density polyethylene) layer. Its foil is a multi-structure foil. It foils two types of printed or unprinted, the printed text matter on the PET side and the LDPE layer on its inner side. It foils use for more sensitive pharmaceutical finished products. The foil packaging finished products such as tablets, and capsules. It is a barrier to moisture, air heat, and other environmental conditions.

PET/AL/PA/LDPE Combination foil
  • Total Grammage:

The PET/Alum/PA/LDPE Foil sample tests the total Grammage cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 area (if applicable) with the help of a GSM plate. The sample is printed foil then, the cotton or tissue roll dipped in is in ethyl acetate, removing the printing text matter of the foil dried the sample is at room temperature. The sample weighs at analytical balance. The Grammage calculation by the given formula,

Total Grammage= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

  • For the LDPE Layer:

Take the total Grammage sample dipped in the glass beaker containing acetone. Boiling the solution on a hot plate, after some time the LDPE layer is dissolved in the solution. The remaining layer is PET/Alum/PA Foil. The remaining sample is dry at room temperature after some time the sample is dry. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculate the Grammage by the given formula,

Remaining sample Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

  • For the remaining layer

The sample of the remaining sample was dipped in a glass beaker containing 25% glacial acetic acid. Boiling the solution on a hot plate, after some time each layer is separated from the other. The layers are separated into an Aluminium layer, a PET layer, and the PA layer, wash the sample from the water and dry a hot air oven for 2 min at 650 c. Cool the sample in a desiccator. After the cool sample weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculation the Grammage by the given formula,

For the PET layer = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

For Aluminium layer= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

For the PA Layer= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)
