(PVC/Alum/polyamide Film Grammage testing procedure)
- Cold-forming foil composition is Polyvinyl chloride/Aluminium/Polyamide (NYLON)
- Take a sample triplex layer and cut the sample in 10 x 10 cm by GSM plate Take the weighted sample.
- Total GSM = Weight of sample in gram x 100 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm)=W
- Dip the sample in ethyl acetate (ensure the sample is completely in ethyl acetate) for 15 to 20 min PVC Layer is separated. Then the remaining sample was dried in a hot air oven for 2 minutes and the sample layer of aluminium and polyamide.
- Remaining sample Grammage= weight in gram x 100= W1
- Grammage of PVC Layer = Total Grammage- W1
- Take the left-out sample from the PVC Layer. Dip the sample in 25% of glacial acetic acid and slightly boil after some time the polyamide layer separated from the aluminium. Dried the sample in a hot air oven at 1100 c for 5 min
- Taken the weight of an analytical balance.
- Grammage of polyamide layer = weight of sample in gram x 100 ( if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm)
- Grammage of aluminium layer= weight of sample in gram x 100 ( if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm)
Or
- Take the sample of total Grammage, Dip it in 25% acetic acid, and slightly boil the PVC layer separated from the aluminium layer and polyamide layer. The remaining sample dried the sample a hot air oven 700c for 2 min. then taken weight at analytical balance
Grammage = weight in grams x 100 (if the sample is cut in 10 x 10 cm) = W2
Grammage of PVC= Total grammage-W2
- Remaining the sample dip in NaOH solution till the foil dissolves, the polyamide layer remains then dry the sample 700c for 2 min take the weight,
- Grammage of Polyamide= weight of sample in gram x 100 ( if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm)
- Grammage of alum layer = W2– Grammage of polyamide
