Alum/Aclar Foil Testing Procedure

The Alum/Aclar foil sample is made from a thin layer aluminium layer laminated with an Aclar layer. It is printed or unprinted foil, the printed-on aluminium layer. The Aclar layer side the contact with the contact with tablets or capsules. Its foil is used in pharmaceutical-finished products such as tablets and capsules.

Alum/Aclar foil structure

1.Description:

The aluminium foil is laminated with an Aclar layer. It can be printed or unprinted, and it is printed on the aluminium layer side.

2. Text matter:

The Alum/Aclar foil is printed to test whether the text matter matches the shade card or artwork

3. Color Scheme:

The Alum/Aclar foil is text matter, the testing of the text matter color scheme matches the shade card or Pantone card

4. Width:

The Alum/Aclar foil is the testing of the Width, the testing width measures the foil with the help of a measuring scale. The selected sample measure width and note the reading.

5. Inner core diameter:

The Alum/Aclar foil is the roll. Its rolls measure the inner core diameter with a measuring scale. A sample tests the inner core diameter and notes the reading.

6. Aclar Layer Identification by FTIR:

The identification of the Alum/Aclar Foil sample is done by identification testing performed with the help of an instrument by FTIR. The sample of the Aclar side layer identifies its instrument. Its sample compares the sample of the Aclar Layer reference standard. We take the Aclar Reference Standard and the sample of the Aclar Layer side. Its graph is plotted at a wavelength of 3800-650cm-1.

The spectrum obtained from the specimen exhibits major absorption bands only at the same wavelengths as the spectrum of the Aclar reference standard.

7. Grammage:

  • Total Grammage:

The sample of Alum/Aclar foil for the testing of total Grammage, the selected sample cut the 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm (if applicable) with the help of a GSM plate. Take the sample weigh the analytical balance, and calculate the Grammage by the given formula.

Total Grammage= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample is cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

  • For the aluminium layer

The sample of total Grammage sample dip in the glass beaker containing ethyl acetate. After some time each layer separated. The aluminium layer and aclar layer. The sample dry in the hot air oven for 2 min at 650c. After drying the sample cool it in a desiccator. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculated the Grammage by the given formula.

The aluminium layer Grammage =weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample is cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

  • For the Aclar Layer:

Taken the Aclar layer dried the sample weighed the analytical balance and calculated the Grammage by giving the formula,

Aclar Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample is cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)

8. Identification of the Aluminium layer:

For the testing of the aluminium layer by the chemical method, we took the sample of the “aluminium layer Grammage “the sample weighing 15 mg at analytical balance. Take in the 100 ml glass beaker. it is in a beaker mixing 30 ml 1NHCL then heat the beaker aluminium foil to dissolve, in solution add about 1 ml HCL and 1 ml of thioacetamide regents, no precipitate is formed, add dropwise NaoH solution and a gelatinous white precipitate is formed which dissolve on further addition of 1NaoH Solution after gradually addition ammonium hydroxide solution .gelatinous white precipitate is re-formed

9. Thickness:

  • Total thickness

The sample of Alum/Aclar foil is tested for thickness with the help of a digital micrometer. The selected sample takes the reading and notes the reading.

  • Aluminium layer thickness

The sample of the Aluminium layer from the “aluminium layer Grammage” sample foil is tested for thickness with the help of a digital micrometer. The selected sample takes the reading and notes the reading.

  • Aclar layer thickness

The sample of the Aclar layer from the “Aclar layer Grammage” sample foil is tested for thickness with the help of a digital micrometer. The selected sample takes the reading and notes the reading

.

10. Pinhole:

The testing of the pinhole of the sample Alum/Aclar foil. Take the sample of the test performed by an Illuminated magnifier tester instrument. Its instruments are in the background white light. Put the sample on the front of the bench. We neck eye verify the sample. It is easy to see any hole in the foil. if any hole in the foil the background light passes its hole it is easily identified the hole. Ensure the sample has no pine holes. It is easily identify the foil is no pinhole.
