Aclar Laminated with Alum Grammage Testing Procedure

The Aclar is laminated with aluminium foil. It is a type of lidding foil for blister packaging. There are two types of printed and unprinted foil. The text matter is printed on the aluminium layer. The Aclar layer is the inner side of the foil and the aluminium layer is the outer of the foil. The Aclar with aluminium foil uses blister packing of the pharmaceutical packaging. The pharmaceutical products are tablets and capsules. It is a barrier to heat, temperature, water, and environmental conditions.

Aclar/alum foil structure
  • Total Grammage:

The sample of total Grammage testing of the sample Aclar with Aluminium foil cut with the help of a GSM plate in the area 10 x10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 (as applicable). If the sample is printed remove the text matter the dip the cloth or cotton in ethyl acetate. Rubbing on the text matter. It is easily removing the text matter from the aluminium layer. Dry the sample at room temperature. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculating the total Grammage by the given formula,

Total Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (as sample cut area 10 x10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

  • Aclar and Aluminium Grammage:

The total Grammage sample in a glass beaker containing ethyl acetate. The sample is completely dipped in the solution. The sample is after 15-20 min both layer is separated from each other. The layer Aclar and aluminium layer were washed with water. The sample dried in a hot air oven for 2 min at 650c. Cool the sample in a desiccator. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculation by the given formula,

Aclar Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (as sample cut area 10 x10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

Aluminium Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (as sample cut area 10 x10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)
