The sample of OPA/Alum/HSL foil is made in a combination of the three components OPA (Orinated polyamide, also called nylon), Aluminium, and Heat seal lacquer. The aluminium layer is laminated with OPA on one side and the other with heat seal lacquer. The foil has an HSL side on the inner side and the OPA layer side foil on the outer side. The foil is of two types printed and unprinted, the printing of text matter on the OPA layer side. The blister packaging uses the lidding foil packaging as this foil. The pharmaceutical finished products use packaging tablets and capsules.
- Total Grammage:
The sample of OPA/Alum/HSL foil is testing of total Grammage cut the sample 10 x 10 cm2 area or 5 x 5 cm2 area (as applicable) with the help of GSM plate. The text matter on the OPA layer removes the cotton or tissue roll dipped in the ethyl acetate rubbing on the text matter, carefully does not contact on the HSL Layer side. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculate the total Grammage by the given formula,
Total Grammage = weight in gram x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 area or 5 x 5 cm2 area)
- Heat Seal lacquer Grammage
The sample of total Grammage sample dip in an ethyl acetate-containing glass beaker. Rubbing on the HSL layer with cotton or clean cloth containing ethyl acetate after rubbing the text matter is removed. The sample removes the HSL layer and the sample of OPA/Alum layer weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculating the HSL Layer Grammage,
OPA/Alum Grammage = weight in gram x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 area or 5 x 5 cm2 area)
HSL Layer Grammage = total Grammage – OPA/Alum Grammage
- OPA Layer Grammage:
The sample of OPA/Alum Layer dipped in the glass beaker containing 10 % sodium hydroxide solution. After some time 10-20 min the aluminium layer is dissolved in the sodium hydroxide solution the remaining sample is the OPA layer. The sample is washed in water. Dry the sample in a hot air oven for 2 min at 650c.cool the sample in a desiccator. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculating the OPA layer Grammage by the given formula,
OPA Layer Grammage = weight in gram x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 area or 5 x 5 cm2 area)
- Aluminium layer Grammage:
The aluminium layer Grammage calculation by the OPA Layer Grammage and the OPA/Alum Layer Grammage
Aluminium Layer Grammage = OPA/Alum Layer Grammage – OPA Layer Grammage
