How Testing Aclar/Alum Foil Testing Procedure

The Aclar/Alum film is made from the Aluminium layer laminated with the Aclar layer. The Aclar layer is the inner side of the film and the Aluminium layer is the outer side of the film. The foil is printed then, text matter is printed on the aluminium layer. This foil is used in the pharmaceutical finished product. The blister packaging is used aluminium. Aluminium is tear and the most useful substance material to use in the packaging of pharmaceuticals. It combines the Aclar and a useful material for sensitive finished products.

Aclar/Alum Foil Structure

1.Description:

The sample is aluminium film laminated with an Aclar layer, the foil is printed or unprinted.

2. Text matter:

The Aclar/Alum foil sample is printed, and the text matter is compared with the shade card or artwork.

3. Color scheme:

The color scheme text matters is matching the shade card or Pantone card.

4. Width:

The testing of the sample Aclar/Alum foil is measured with the help of a measuring scale. Take the sample measure the width and note down the reading.

5. Inner core diameter:

The sample foil is a roll. The roll’s inner core diameter measuring with the help of a measuring scale. Take the sample from the stock measuring the inner core diameter and note it down.

6. Grammage:

  • Total Grammage:

The sample of the foil Aclar/alum testing the total Grammage cut the sample 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 x 5 cm2 (as applicable) with the help of GSM Plate. If the sample is printed remove the text matter from the aluminium layer. Take cotton or a clean cloth and dip it in ethyl acetate rubbing at the aluminium layer. The text matter is removed from the aluminium layer. The dry sample is at room temperature. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculate the total Grammage by the given formula,

Total Grammage= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 area )

  • Aclar and aluminium Grammage:

The testing of the Grammage of the aluminium and aclar film individual layer Grammage takes the total Grammage sample. The sample was dipped in an ethyl acetate-containing glass beaker. After 15- 20 min both layer is separated from each other. The aluminium and aclar layer are washed in water, dry the sample in a hot air oven for 2 min at 650c. Cool the sample in a desiccator, calculate the Grammage of the layer of aluminium and aclar by the given formula,

Aclar Grammage= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 area )

Alum Grammage=weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 area )

7. Identification by FTIR:

The sample of the Aclar/alum foil the testing of the identification of the contact layer is Aclar. The sufficient the Aclar layer sample is done by identification testing performed with the help of an instrument by FTIR. The sample of the Aclar layer identifies its instrument. Its sample compares the sample of the aclar Layer reference standard. We take the Aclar Reference Standard and the sample of the Aclar Layer side. Its graph is plotted at a wavelength of 3800-650cm-1.

The spectrum obtained from the specimen exhibits major absorption bands only at the same wavelengths as the spectrum of the Aclar reference standard.

8. Identification of aluminium by chemical method:

Take the sample of Aluminium layer Grammage, This test is performed to identify aluminium by the chemical method. Take a sample of the Grammage of the aluminium layer. Weighing the sample 15 mg at analytical balance, Take in a beaker mix 30 ml 1NHCL then heat on a hot plate. The beaker aluminium foil to dissolve, in solution, add about 0.5 ml conc HCL and thioacetamide regents, no precipitate is formed, add dropwise NaoH solution and a gelatinous white precipitate is formed which dissolves on further addition of 1NaoH Solution after gradually addition ammonium hydroxide solution .gelatinous white precipitate is re-formed.

9. Thickness

Total thickness:

The selected sample of the Aclar/Alum foil measures the total thickness with the help of a Digital micrometer. Take the reading and mote down the reading.

  • For The Aclar Layer:

The selected sample of the Aclar Layer from “The Grammage of Aclar Layer” measures the thickness with the help of a Digital micrometer. Take the reading and mote down the reading.

  • For the Aluminium Layer:

The selected sample of the Aluminium Layer from “The Grammage of Aluminium Layer” measures the thickness with the help of a Digital micrometer. Take the reading and mote down the reading

10. Pinhole:

The pinhole testing of the sample of Aclar/Alum foil testing foil of illuminated magnifier tester instrument. When the sample is put on the bench of the pinhole tester. The background light is identified as the hole in the Foil sample. It visually checks the sample and does not have any holes. It test identified the sample has no holes.
