Paper/LDPE/Alum/LDPE Foil Testing Procedure

The Paper/LDPE/Alum/LDPE foil is made from Paper, LDPE (low-density polyethylene), and Aluminium. It is a structure of an aluminium layer laminated with an LDPE layer on one side and an aluminium layer on the other side, LDPE, and paper. The foil is the inner side of the LDPE layer and the outer side Paper layer. The foil is printed and unprinted type. The foil is printed text matter on the paper layer side. The foil is lidding blister packaging. The foil is used multi-structure. The foil is a barrier to light, heat, moisture, and environmental conditions.

  1. Description:

The foil is an Aluminium layer laminated LDPE on one side and on another side aluminium layer Laminated LDPE layer and paper. the foil is printed or unprinted foil.

2. Text matter:

The foil is printed, and the text matters are compared with the shade card and Artwork.

3. Color scheme:

The foil is printed text matter and the text matter color scheme is compared with shade card or Pantone card.

4. Width:

The foil is Paper/LDPE/Alum/LDPE foil is testing width with the help of measuring scale. The width-measuring length and record.

5. Inner core diameter:

The foil is as a roll, the foil roll inner core diameter with the help of a measuring scale. The Inner core diameter measures and records the reading.

6. Grammage:

  • Total Grammage;

The sample of Paper/LDPE/Alum/LDPE foil testing of total Grammage testing cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2 area with the help of GSM plate. The sample is printed text matter, remove the text matter on the paper remove the cloth or cotton dip in ethyl acetate, and rub on the paper layer side the text matter is removed. The text matter removes the foil and dries the sample at room temperature. Weighing the sample at analytical balance, calculating the total Grammage given formula,

Total Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

  • Paper layer Grammage:

The sample of total Grammage sample was taken, dipped in hot water, and then rubbed on the paper layer with cloth or cotton. The sample was washed with water remaining sample was LDPE/Alum/LDPE foil. Dry the sample in a hot air oven for 2 min at 650c. Cool the sample in a desiccator, weighing the sample at an analytical balance, calculation by the given formula,

LDPE/Alum/LDPE foil= weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

Paper Grammage = total Grammage – LDPE/Alum/LDPE foil Grammage

  • LDPE And Aluminium Grammage:

The remaining sample of LDPE/Alum/LDPE foil sample was dipped in a glass beaker containing ethyl acetate. After 15-20 min sample is LDPE and the aluminium layer is separated from each other. The LDPE layer and aluminium layer are washed with water. Dry the sample in a hot hot-air oven for 2 minutes at 650c. Cool the sample in a desiccator. Calculated the Grammage by the given formula,

LDPE Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

Alum Grammage = weight in grams x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm2 or 5 x 5 cm2)

7. Identification OF LDPE by FTIR:

The sample of Paper/LDPE/Alum/LDPE foil identification testing of the LDPE layer FTIR Instrument. Take a sufficient sample and put it on the FTIR instrument. The reference standard is used in LDPE. The scan of the LDPE standard reference and the sample of Paper/LDPE/Alum/LDPE Foil is the LDPE side layer scan. The spectra were plotted between wavelengths 650-3800 cm-1. Both the sample and reference sample match.

The spectrum of the specimen exhibits major absorption bands only at the same wavelength as the spectrum of the LDPE sample and reference standard LDPE.

8. Identification of aluminium by chemical method:

The testing of the aluminium layer and the identification of aluminium by the chemical method take the sample of Aluminium Grammage. Weighing the sample 15 mg at analytical balance Take in a beaker mix 30 ml 1NHCL then heat on a hot plate. The beaker aluminium foil to dissolve, in solution, add about 0.5 ml conc HCL and thioacetamide regents, no precipitate is formed, add dropwise NaoH solution, and a gelatinous white precipitate is formed which dissolves on further addition of 1NaoH Solution after gradually addition ammonium hydroxide solution .gelatinous white precipitate is re-formed.

9. Thickness:

  • Total thickness:

Take a sample of stock, the sample measuring total thickness with the help of a digital micrometer. The sample takes reading and notes the reading.

  • LDPE Layer:

Take a sample of LDPE layer Grammage, the sample measuring LDPE Layer thickness with the help of digital micrometer. The sample takes reading and notes the reading.

  • Aluminium Layer:

Take a sample of Aluminium layer Grammage, the sample measuring Aluminium Layer thickness with the help of digital micrometer. The sample takes reading and notes the reading.

10. Pinhole Testing of Paper/LDPE/Alum/LDPE FOIL :

The selected sample of Paper/LDPE/Alum/LDPE foil tested the pinhole of the sample foil with the help of an instrument pinhole tester. The sample was plotted on the back of the light background the light visually, the not observe the hole in the sample. If the sample has a hole light passed the light, it is easily verified in a pinhole. It test is important for foil in pharmaceutical finished product packaging.
