- Take a sample of a board carton cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm with the help of a GSM plate.
- Dip the sample in a beaker containing Luke’s warm water to ensure the sample is completely dipped in water.
- After 15 to 20 min then check the sample. All layer is separated into a layer

- Dry the layer of the carton in a hot air oven at 1050 C FOR 15 minutes or till the sample is dehydrated
- Collected all samples, and separated the flute sample cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm with the help of a GSM plate.
- Take a sample of all layer weights of a sample taken at analytical balance one by one then record the reading.
- Calculate the GSM of this formula by given.
- Grammage of layer = weight in gram x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm )
- Its units are gram/m2
