Grammage Testing of Paper/PET/Alum/Polyethylene foil

Paper/pet/alum/PE Combination foil
  • Selected sample of the combination of layer Paper-PET-Alum-Polyethylene cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm with the help of a GSM plate, then weigh an analytical balance.
  • Total Grammage = weight in gram x 100 or 400 (if the sample cut 10 x 10 cm or 5 x 5 cm)
  • Take a sample of the total Grammage and dip the sample in ethyl acetate, after some time Polyethylene layer is removed from the paper, PET, and Alum film. Dry the layer in a hot air oven at 700c for 1 min. take the weight and analytical balance.
  • Grammage of Polyethylene = weight in gram x 100
  • Take a remaining sample and dip it in hot water for 30 minutes, using a clean cloth remove the paper, and dry the remaining sample layer in a hot air oven 700 c for 2 min then cool in a desiccator. Take weight in an analytical balance
  • Remaining sample GSM = weight in gram x 100
  • Grammage of paper = Total Grammage –( Grammage of Polyethylene + Remaining sample GSM)
  • The remaining sample is dipped in sodium hydroxide solution till the aluminium layer dissolves after some time, the polyethylene terephthalate layer remains. Dry the sample in a hot air oven 700 c for 2 min then cool in a desiccator. Take weight in an analytical balance.
  • Grammage of PET Layer = weight in gram x 100
  • Grammage of Aluminium layer = Remaining sample GSM- Grammage of PET Layer
